Blium specifically points out that Pilniak’s entire body of work were prohibited from publication, the writer himself had been shot as an enemy of the people. As a result it was exceedingly dangerous during the 1980’s to possess or to be in any involved with the distribution of any Pilniak samizdat.
Our samizdat is one of very few to bear Pilniak’s name. We do know from its previous owner that it was an employee of the Library of Novosibirsk who made the copy with a solely commercial aim in 1978. The original collector was also the one who produced the existing binding.
