(1200) Vian, Boris (1920-1959). “Pena Dnei” (“L’écume des jours”).
Rotaprint after an original typescript, 195 pages printed and numbered recto. 29,5cm. Folio, Orange binding.
Although the novel was published in the original French in 1947, it was not until 1983 that the first Russian publication would appear in translation by Liliana Lungina by “Khudozhestvennaia Literatura”. The book was not put on open sale and as such became an instant bibliophilic rarity even in spite of a fairly sizeable print run of 50,000.
Our samizdat does not correspond to Lungina’s translation and, from the literary quality of the text, would seem to be an amateur pirate edition before the first Russian publication and official translation. We don’t know of any other example of this samizdat and it is absent too from the Mark Barbakadze’s Anthology.
