(4099) Vandeman, George (1916 – 2000). “Po tu storonu chudes” (“The Other Side of Grief”) (“Neozhidannyie proiavleniia ustrashaiushchego mira angelov, stavshikh demonam”) (“The Unexpected Events in a Terrifying World Where the Angels Have Become Demons”)

Photocopy of a typescript sold clandestinely in Moscow by a bookseller operating from his apartment, the bookseller continued his business of selling orthodox Stalinist works until 1992. 111 pages. Illustrated card wraps. 19,3cm. Samizdat dated 1986.

A pastor and a Seventh-day evangelist who founded the “It Is Written” television ministry, George Vandeman raised sensitive issues for Christians questioning the resurrection of Christ, the immortality of the soul and the possibility of eternal life ever after with Christ in a new land. On the other hand he was militant in cautioning against the cunning influences of Satan in the guise of spiritualism, hypnotism, ufology, various Eastern religions, fashion and Rock’n’Roll.
Published in 1986 this text would be translated the same year in the USSR and distributed by samizdat in anti-communist circles. It was only in 1991 that three official editions in Russian would appear (Kiev, Moscow, Tashkent).
