(5023) Shtein Eduard (1934-1999). “Progulki s Gulem” (Walks with Gul).

Chess player, editor, bibliophile and critic before his emigration to the United States in 1969; Shtein lived in Russia and Poland and spent a year in prison after his arrest in 1966. Once there he published a reference book “Poeziia russkogo rasseianiia 1920-1970” on the poetry of the Russian Diaspora between 1920-70 taking largely from his personal collection and founded the publishing house “Antikvariat” which released over forty books including several anthologies of poetry.
An acute critical article on Roman Gul (1896-1986) a major writer of the Russian émigré, journalist, publicist and memoirist.

Original typescript, 2nd copy. 28cm X 21,5cm. 16 looseleaf sheets printed recto only with handwritten corrections. Originally bound with paperclip, here missing. This samizdat left the USA at the beginning of 1971.
